Choosing your team

Pick your team the first time you open Terrace. You can change it anytime from Settings — Terrace follows one team at a time. If Terrace can't find your team in the Premier League — after relegation, for example — it shows the team list again so you can choose.

Which matches Terrace shows

Terrace covers Premier League matches only. Cup ties and European fixtures don't appear, so the next league fixture you see may not be your team's very next match. Your recent results and form guide follow the same rule. While your team is playing, that match stays as the next league fixture, and the table position is left out until full time, since the live table would give away the score.

Changing your accent colour

Tap the gear icon to open Settings, then pick one of six accent colours. Your accent is also the colour of a win in the form guide — draws stay outlined and losses stay dim whichever you choose, so your results always read the same way. The change applies to the app and your widgets straight away.

No spoilers

Turn on Hide new results under No spoilers in Settings, and each new result stays hidden in the app, on your Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, and on Apple Watch until you reveal it — results already on screen stay visible. In the app, scratch away most of the foil covering a hidden result to see the score; on Apple Watch, tap the hidden result and turn the Digital Crown to peel the foil away (with VoiceOver, double-tap instead); if several are waiting, you reveal them one at a time, oldest first. While a result is hidden, the form guide shows a question mark in its place and the table position and points are hidden too, since they'd give it away; widgets show "Tap to reveal", and tapping one opens the app.

Home Screen widget

Add the Terrace widget from your Home Screen widget gallery in small, medium, or large size. It shows the team you chose in the app, and changes whenever you pick a new one. To show a different team on one particular widget, long-press it, tap Edit Widget, and pick that team from the list.

Lock Screen widget

To add a Terrace widget to your Lock Screen, long-press the Lock Screen, tap Customize, and choose Terrace from the widget list. The inline style sits beside the date and shows your team's code, recent form as letters — like DDWD — and the next opponent when there's room; the circular style shows your last five results as a ring around the team code, oldest at the lower left and most recent at the lower right, with a solid segment for a win, an outline for a draw, and a faint one for a loss; the rectangular style shows your team, table position, form, and next fixture. All three show the team you chose in the app, and they follow No spoilers: a hidden result appears as a question mark or a dashed segment.

Apple Watch app

Install Terrace on your Apple Watch from the Watch app on your iPhone. It shows your team, table position, last five results, next fixture, and recent results, fetching them itself so it works even when your phone isn't nearby. The first time you open it, it asks you to choose a team. Swipe left to open Settings, where you can change your team or turn No spoilers on or off.

Full-time notifications

Terrace asks whether you want notifications the first time your team's results load. If you say yes, you get one when your team's match ends — within a few minutes of the final whistle rather than the instant it blows. You can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings, under Notifications, then Terrace.

With No spoilers off, the notification carries the final score. With No spoilers on, it tells you the match has finished and your result is waiting, and never shows the score — open Terrace to reveal it.

Hidden touches

Terrace adds a few small moments when the results or the calendar earn them — though never for a result No spoilers is still hiding.

  • Five straight wins make the form guide do a Mexican wave. Tap it to see it again.
  • Five straight losses get a word of consolation.
  • A win after trailing at half time is tagged Comeback.
  • A match where your team concedes nothing is tagged Clean sheet.
  • When your next fixture is a derby, the next fixture card names it.
  • Matchday 38 is marked as the final day of the season.
  • Between May and August, when there's no fixture to show, the next fixture card tells you it's the summer break.
  • Changing teams from Settings gets a knowing line.

When scores can't load

If your connection drops or the score service is unavailable, Terrace keeps showing the last results it successfully loaded, with a "last updated" time so you know how fresh they are, rather than an error or a blank widget. Only if nothing has ever loaded — opening Terrace for the first time while offline, say — will you see a "Can't reach Terrace" screen, where you can try again or open Settings. Note that scores in Terrace are intentionally delayed rather than live, so they appear shortly after a match concludes rather than updating minute by minute.
